Born in Faro, musician, pianist, and Portuguese composer. Julio Resende, a leading figure in the new generation in Portugal’s Fado and Jazz music scene, started playing piano at the age of four. Resende was originally from a classical background but soon realized that he couldn’t improvise over compositions. Julio was a participant in many workshops, where he learned from the top jazz and contemporary music masters, Berklee College of Music and Bill Evans Academy. He also joined Hot Clube, Universite Paris – VIII. In 2006, he completes his Philosophy studies at the Faculdade de Ciencias Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He teaches Jazz Piano at Universidade de Aveiro, where he is completing his Master’s Degree in Jazz Music. He was able to see the importance of jazz and how it influenced his thinking about improvisation in other musical styles. Fado is where he combines tradition and modernity, and he launches from his piano a new view of the Portuguese song. From www.julioresende.com
