Kate Gentile

Since moving to NYC in 2011, Kate Gentile, a Buffalo-born drummer and composer, has recorded and performed with many renowned musicians. Kate has collaborated with Dustin Carlson and Kris Davis, Marty Ehrlich (Matt Mitchell), Marty Ehrlich, Marty Ehrlich and Marty Formanek as well as Marty Ehrlich, Marty Ehrlich. Shelado Negro guitarist Ted Reichman, Chris Speed, Anna Webber and John Zorn. In addition to working as a sideman and collaborator, Kate leads bands exploring her own music, which has been described as “…hyper-detailed…designed to spur multi-faceted improvisation”. Kim Cass, Adam Hopkins and Hank Roberts are her bandmates. They play Kate’s compositions and often explore complex harmonic and rhythmic material. Mannequins, her record (Skirl 037 June 2017), has received much critical acclaim both from music journalists as well as heavyweight musicians. Snark Horse is another important project Kate is involved in. She co-leads the band and shares compositional duties alongside pianist Matt Mitchell. Matt Mitchell’s sextet Phalanx Ambassadors includes Kate. Dustin Carlson’s Air Ceremony septet features Dustin Carlson.
