Kate Westbrook was born in Britain, but she spent most of her childhood and young adulthood in North America. At University, she studied Fine Art. In 1965, she had her first solo exhibition of her paintings at Santa Barbara Museum of Art in California. She continued to exhibit her art after returning to the UK. She also taught at Leeds College of Art at the time, which was at the forefront of experimental theatre/performance art. Kate Westbrook’s musical career started in the mid-’70s with the Mike Westbrook Brass Band. She quit teaching to focus on her dual career as a painter and musician. Kate Westbrook Kate has toured extensively throughout Europe and the UK, as well as Australia, Canada, and the Far East. She has recorded over 30 albums and broadcast on TV and radio. She sings Contemporary Music, Opera and Cabaret as well as Jazz, Pop, and Popular Song. She has been a lyricist, and songwriter, and she is most well-known for her work with contemporary composers, such as The Skirmishers, in the album Cuff Clout. This is a neoteric, music-hall. Kate is a member of the contemporary classical band Lavolta. She also works with The Uncommon Orchestra and The Westbrook Blake.
