Katharina Weber

Bern, 1958 – Born. Jurg Wyttenbach and Urs Peter Schneider taught her piano in Bern and Basel. Erika Radermacher, Jorg Ewald Dahler, and Jurg Wyttenbach were also her teachers. Masterclasses with Tatyana Nicholasjewa (piano), Yehudi Menuhin (chamber music), Frederic Rzewski (piano), Fred Frith, Fred Frith, Barre Phillips (improvisation). 1987 Soloist Award of Swiss Musicians Association (AMS), 2000, awarded with the Buergi-Willert Prize. (Assigned by Heinz Holliger 5 other composers) 2001 Large Music Prize of Canton of Bern. Ms. Weber has performed solo with conductors like Jurg Wyttenbach or Heinz Holliger as well as as a member of chamber ensembles. She is a pianist who works with many composers including Urs Peter Schneider and Peter Streiff. She has made recordings for the national radio and for CDs and been active as an organizer/co-ordinator for the local section of the International Society for New Music (IGNM) and the association Workshop of Improvised Music (WIM) in Bern. Ms. Weber is an improvising pianist and has performed solo concerts improvised by herself. She has also worked with Irene Schweizer (Irene Schweizer), Jurg Solothurnmann (Alfred Zimmerlin), Franziska Baumann, Fred Frith, and Alfred Zimmerlin. Intermedia projects that combine music, pantomime and eurhythmy with theatre, painting, poetry, and theatre often include Weber. Presently, Ms.Weber participates in a program that includes the Butoh-dancer Pia Mari, the percussionist Balts Nill, and the bass-player Barry Guy, as well as in the duo of Christian Kobi. She has been writing individual compositions since 1994, in both improvisational and composed chamber music pieces.
