Kenny Barron, a United States jazz pianist was born June 9, 1943 in Philadelphia. He is Bill Barron’s younger brother. He was first recognized for his talent when he sat down at the piano in the 1960s Dizzy Gilliespie quartet. He worked with many well-known musicians, including Yusef lateef, James Moody and Freddie Hubbard. He was also a co-leader of the group Sphere, and has led his own groups for recordings and performances. He has been nominated for nine Grammy Awards and the American Jazz Hall of Fame. Barron was a Rutgers University professor of keyboard harmony and piano for over 25 years. The National Endowment of the Arts has named Barron a Jazz Master.
