Kenny Rittenhouse

Since 1993, Kenny Rittenhouse, a trumpeter, has been leading his own jazz quartet. They have performed all over Washington, DC. Kenny has performed alongside jazz musicians Ralph Peterson, Don Braden, Buck Hill, and Steve Wilson, as well as bassists James King and Dwayne Dolphin. He also performs with The Cannonball Adderly Big Band. Along with Jazz educator Jamey Aebersold, he has given master classes and clinics alongside jazz trumpeter/clinician Vince Dimartino. Kenny is also a regular sub with The Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra. He received a Bachelor’s degree in trumpet performance from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1988. This emphasis was in jazz studies. He studied trumpet with Dr. Tim Dewitt at WVWC and was guided by Dr. David Milburn throughout his degree. He did his graduate work at The Eastman School of Music, and Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. There he studied with Eric Kloss and Roger Sherman of Pittsburgh Symphony. He received a Masters in Jazz Performance at the University of Maryland in May 2006. There he studied trumpeter Chris Gekker, and performed with the UMD Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Chris Vadala. Kenny is a member the The United States Army Band (Pershing’s Own) in Washington DC since 1990. This is the Army’s premier band, performing concerts and ceremonies at the Pentagon, White House and the US Capital.
