Kilimanjaro Dark Jazz Ensemble

In 2000, the Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble was formed to create new music for silent movies. Gideon Kiers, (Telcosystems) and Jason Kohnen (aka Bong Ra), are both Utrecht School of Arts graduates. They combined their audio-visual skills to reinterpret classic F.W. movies. Murnau (Nosferatu), and F. Lang (“Metropolis”) were both graduates of the Utrecht School of Arts. The self-titled debut album was recorded by Hilary Jeffery, a UK trombonist, and Nina Hitz, a Swiss cellist. It was released on Planet Mu Records May 2006. Eelco Bosman, a Paris-based singer, joined the Ensemble to form a sextet. Sadie Anderson, a London-based violinist, joined the Ensemble in 2008 to provide extra power on stage. Since 2007, TKDE has been based in the Netherlands. Members have moved closer together to make it easier to compose and produce. Apart from TKDE’s mothership, The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation (live improv jazz / drone / death side project) is comprised of TKDE members as well as a variety of guest musicians. The vast sound spectrum of TKDE can be difficult to capture in one composition due to its many possibilities. The project can also be influenced by the individual members who are working together at the same time. The best foundation for a TKDE composition is a good mixture of atmosphere and technique. http://www.last.fm
