Kim Richmond

KIM RICHMOND, a versatile and active musician based in Los Angeles, is KIM RICHMOND. Jazz is his first love, and his primary jazz instrument is the alto Saxophone. However, he has been involved in almost every aspect of professional music, as both a musician and as an arranger/composer. He plays the alto, soprano and tenor saxes, clarinet and bass clarinets, as well as flutes. Kim was a member of several orchestras, including those of Stan Kenton and Louis Bellson, Bob Florence and Bill Holman. Kim Richmond’s Kim Richmond Concert Jazz Orchestra is where he can practice writing, leading and conducting. His Ensemble (sextet), is a forum for free-form expression and improvisation with the members playing and Kim’s written words being the key factors. Kim is also an excellent educator. Kim was an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California Jazz Studies department for 12 years (teaching composition, saxophone and teaching combos). He also conducts numerous clinics and camps in the spring and summer of each year. He has been a staff member at many of Jim Widner’s Summer Jazz Camps and is also involved in the Northwoods Jazz Camp/Jazz Party. He is currently a Jazz Department instructor at the California Institute of the Arts. KIM RICHMOND has a unique voice.
