King Fleming

Walter “King” Fleming, born May 4, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois, is an American jazz pianist. Fleming was a classmate of Sonny Cohn and played trombone in McKinley High School’s band. He then went on to study at Midwest College of Music. Before King Fleming, Fleming had been a leader in several other informal bands. His Swing Band performed its first performance in September 1942. The band performed under his leadership until it was no longer viable after he was drafted to the U.S. Army, July 1943. Fleming was discharged in 1945 and began session work in Los Angeles with Johnnie Alston.
