He is one of the most highly-respected jazz double bassists in Poland. He can switch between jazz styles and guises, from the more accessible, avant-garde or Polish folk music, as well as jazz. Wojcinski’s musical ability to mix and match different genres is due to his lightness, ease and musical erudition. 1982 was the year that Wojcinski was born. His regular performances at the Pardon, To Tu jazz club in Warsaw made Wojcinski a well-known Polish jazz musician. He performed in a duo with Wojciech Jachna and solo. The Soul, Wojcinski’s solo album, was released in 2014. He was a musician who played the double bass, piano, guitar, drums, and sang. He explained that the music on this album is a summary from a stage of my life in a interview with Polska The Times. It’s an inward journey. It’s a journey to discover yourself and your roots. Wojcinski recorded an album with American pianist Uri Case (in a trio recording the album Szpilman), and also recorded with Robert Rasz, Nicole Mitchell, and Marco Eneidi. (Wojcinski was part of the quartet that recorded the live album Panta Rei). Wojcinski was also part of Ad Libitum Ensemble. This improvising orchestra, led by Agusti Fernandez (Spanish pianist), was created to perform one concert at the Warsaw Improvisation Music Festival Ad Libitum. He recorded and performed with Polish artists such as Raphael Roginski and Mikolaj Trzaska. He forms a duo called ‘Maniucha i Ksawery’ with Maniucha bikont, and performs traditional music. Their 2017 album Oj Borom Borom was released. He currently performs with Wojcinski/Szmanda Quartet, in which he plays alongside the drummer Krzysztof Szmanda as well as his brothers Maurycy and Szymon (trumpet). The quartet’s debut album, Delusions, was released in 2014. He said that he owed the fact that he plays the double bass to Szymon. He played the guitar, the trumpet and the bass. We recorded experimental music with Maurycy many years ago. Our friendship has been a strong one. Piotr Jagielski wrote this article, which was translated by MW January 2018.
