Kyle Nasser

Kyle is a native of Massachusetts and a Berklee and Harvard graduate. He has made a name for himself in NYC as a notable saxophonist/composer. He has performed at numerous venues in New York and Boston, including Wally’s, Wally’s, Iridium and Cornelia Street Cafe. He has also toured the U.S. His quintet has been playing weekly at Brooklyn’s 5th Estate since 2011. Kyle has performed on stage with jazz legends like Hank Jones and Joe Lovano, as well as Ben Monder and Dave Douglas. Kyle is also an avid student of classical composition and has been able to learn more traditional jazz vocabulary and repertoire. He became obsessed with traditional counterpoint, form and large-scale harmonic progressions while at Berklee. This continued study has been a key component of his compositions and his improvisation. These influences are evident on Nasser’s debut album, “Restive Soul”, which is his debut album as a leader. Modern rhythms and sonata forms are performed by jazz-trained musicians who have mastered jazz vocabulary and phrasing. It is important to pay attention to harmony, melody, and rhythm. However, one cannot be overemphasized. Although jazz has a long history of classical influences, this level of aesthetic integration is new. from http://kylenasser.com
