Jewish American pianist, conductor, arranger, and conductor. Born February 13, 1908 in New York, NY, USA. He died April 24, 1971 in Palm Springs, CA, USA. After starting out as a jazz pianist he joined Spencer Clark (’26), Cass Hagen, and Paul Whiteman And His Orchestra, (’28-30). He was also a guest on many recordings with Red Nichols and Bix Beiderbecke during this period. He was the musical director of Bing Crosby’s radio show in the 1930s and also led his own orchestra. He was musical director for MGM Studios, Hollywood (’40-53) as well as Lena Horne’s (’50s).
