Lenny White, a versatile drummer, is best known for his role in Chick Corea’s Return To Forever band in the 1970’s. White learned drums by himself and began his career at the top. He played regularly with Jackie McLean (1968), and recorded “Bitches Brew” with Miles Davis 1969. White soon began working with many of the jazz greats, including Joe Henderson, Joe Henderson and Gato Barbieri. He also recorded “Bitches Brew” with Miles Davis in 1969. White was a member and leader of Return To Forever from 1973 to 1976. However, he was versatile enough to perform in many different settings. Lenny White was the leader of several fusion projects after the dissolution of Return To Forever. However, none of his recordings for Elektra and Nemperor have been dated well. They emphasized commercial funk. His work with the Echoes Of An Era, Griffith Park and all-star bands was more successful. He has also been a valuable sideman on a variety of projects.
