Leroy Jenkins

Leroy Jenkins, March 11, 1932 – Feb 24, 2007, was a composer, free jazz violinist, and violist. He was a founding member of the AACM (Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians), a legendary collective of which he died in 2007. Jenkins, like many members of the Association, studied under Walter Dyett at DuSable High School where he learned to play the alto saxophone. Florida A gave him a music degree in violin.
