Linda Sharrock, also known as Lynda Sharrock, was born Linda Chambers on April 2, 1947 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is an American jazz singer. Sharrock sang in church choirs as a child. She was interested in folk music and jazz and studied art in college. Later, she became interested in avant-garde music. In the mid-1960s, she performed with Pharoah Bernie; in 1966, she married Sonny Sharrock. She began to use the name Lynda professionally. She worked alongside Sanders and Herbie Mann (1969-1970) until the 1970s. Her most well-known performance is the 1969 Sonny Sharrock album Black Woman which was released by Vortex Records. She toured Istanbul with Joe Bonner in 1973, and recorded with him in 1974. In 1978, Sharrock divorced her and she returned to “Linda”, although she retained his surname. She moved to Vienna where she continued her work with Eric Watson, Franz Koglmann and Wolfgang Puschnig into the 1990s. From Wikipedia
