Little Johnny Rivero

Little Johnny Rivero was a legendary congero, percussionist and producer. He is also a song writer and leader of a band. His parents are Puerto Rican. Little Johnny was captivated by the sounds and rhythms of the Randall’s Island rumberos when he was a young boy. Little Johnny started playing percussion when he was ten years old and joined the school band. He took dance lessons soon after and performed on stage at famous venues such as The Manhattan Center. Little Johnny, then fourteen years old, joined Orquesta Colon in New York City, and they recorded two albums together. Johnny moved to Puerto Rico in order to join La Sonora Poncena with his parents. After playing bongos for about a year, he switched to congas. This rekindled the relationship he had with this instrument when he was a child. Little Johnny was a sixteen-year-old musician who traveled the globe and recorded eighteen highly acclaimed albums with La Sonora Poncena. Little Johnny currently travels the globe with Eddie Palmieri, winner of nine Grammy Awards. Johnny still performs with some of the most prominent and respected acts in Latin music, including his band.
