Lonnie Plaxico

Lonnie Plaxico was a versatile bass player throughout his career, even though he was briefly associated with M-Base. He played with Junior Cook, Sonny Stitt and Chet Baker early on. Plaxico spent time with Wynton Marsalis’ (1982) band before joining Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers in mid-’80s. He recorded with David Murray and Dizzy Gillespie, and also led his own Muse sessions in the late ’80s and early ‘90s. Lonnie Plaxico also performed with Greg Osby and Steve Coleman, as well as Cassandra Wilson and Don Byron. Allmusic
