Lotte Anker. Tenor-saxophone and soprano-alto. Composer. Lotte Anker was a Danish composer. She was born in Copenhagen in 1958. She studied classical piano as a child, but she switched to saxophone in her twenties. From 1980 to 1984, she studied music at Copenhagen University and participated in many workshops and courses led by e.g. Joe Henderson, David Liebman and John Tchicai. Marilyn Mazur, David Murray. She is a self-taught composer, but she has a Rhytmic Conservatory, Cph. degree in composition. Bob Brookmeyer leads the composition class, as well as contemporary danish composers like Hans Abrahamsen, Svend Hidtfeldt-Nielsen and Pelle Gudmundsen. Lotte Anker has been a member of various danish/scandinavian bands, e.g. : Marilyn Mazurs “Primi Band” ,Two Bass-Hit, Saxmachine (saxophonequartet), Jazzgroup 90, Art-Out, Marilyn Mazurs “Summerquartet” etc. She has also participated in a lot of different projects as “New Music Orchestra”, Pierre Dorges “SubwayMusic”, Barry Guy Av-Art Orchestra, Composers Biennale 96, NUMUS Festival 97, Toneart Composers Biennale 2000 projectconcerts/tours with Peter Brotzman, Miya Masaoka, Thomas Lehn, Per Jorgensen, Michael Formanek, Tim Berne, Marc Ducret, Dylan van der Schyff , Paal Nilssen-Love, Herb Robertson, Arve Henriksen, Anders Jormin, Andrew Cyrille etc As a composer and saxophoneplayer she has worked with both theatre and dance- theatre: “Kaspar Hauser” with Jorge Holguin Dancetheatre, “Transient Minds” with Ricketts Dance Co., and “Roberto Zucco” at The Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, “Up against the Wall” w. various dancers/performers and Copenhagen Art Ensemble at The Other Opera. She formed her own quartet in 1988 with pianist Mette Petersen. The quartet became a quintet in 1992 with Nils-Petter Mollvaer, norwegian trumpetplayer. She joined the “Anker Friis, Poulsen” free improvising trio in 1995 (with Hasse Poulsen on guitar and Peter Friis–Nielsen on bass). Since 1996, she has been the co-leader of the 12-piece “Copenhagen Art Ensemble” orchestra with tromboneplayer Ture Hansen. Cph. Art Ensemble performs new music. The band has also done tours/projects with e.g. Django Tchicai and John Tchicai are among the artists featured in Art Ensemble. Lotte Anker, Marilyn Crispell, and Marilyn Mazur formed a trio in 1997. The trio (duo w/ M. Crispell), has performed at festivals and clubs across Europe, including France, Spain and Italy. Marilyn Crispell has also toured with Sine Die (w/ Anders Jormin Arve Henriksen). Anker, Taborn u0026 Cleaver were formed in 2003 with pianist Craig Taborn and drummer Gerald Cleaver. Lotte Anker has performed at various festivals and clubs/concertspaces throughout Europe, USA, Canada, and Africa. Lotte Anker has been/has been teaching arrangement composition and improvisation at Rhytmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. She has also done workshops andconcerts throughout Scandinavia, Germany, Canada, and the United States. Lotte Anker has received many workinggrants and commisions, as well as awards, such as the a.o. A 3-year workinggrant from State Arts Council in 96. Danish Jazz Launch 2006-8.
