Louie Ramirez

Louie Ramirez was an latin jazz, salsa, and boogaloo percussionist, vibraphonist and band leader, as well as a composer. In 1956, he made his professional debut in Joe Loco’s group, replacing vibraphonist Pete Terrace. He also co-wrote El Guiro de Macorina in 1961 with Johnny Pacheco. Ramirez made his debut as a bandleader in 1963. He went on to record with Alegre, Fania and Atco, United Artists Records and Caiman, and FNA. Ramirez was a partner with Joe Cuba and Charlie Palmieri in 1965 and 1968, and later with Tito Rodriguez during the 1970s. In 1975, he was made a Fania staff producer and later became a production assistant to Willie Colon during the 1970s. Louie Ramirez, 55, died from a fatal heart attack on June 7, 1993.
