Manuel Valera Sr

Mr. Valera is an excellent alto saxophonist. His tone is smooth and mellow, with a sound that sounds like it was influenced by Lester Young. He sounds almost like a bird in flight when he plays soprano, hovering down to display its beauty from time to another. He has his own voice, Mr. Valera. His amazing soaring and dipping intonation can be described as sweeping and beautiful arcs. These are more apparent when he plays soprano saxophone. However, his lines on alto may curve in stunning parabolas that are adorned with baroque decor. In deference to the simplicity of the bolero, however, Mr. Valera is not afraid to be simple in his short soli. His music is a beautiful expression of himself. This is a testament to his musicianship and rare intelligence, which can only be achieved through years of practice and fine tuning his art. If he had sung, Mr. Valera could have been a troubadour. from http://latinjazznet.com
