She is a jazz singer with a bright voice. Her 1992 album SHINE reached the top of the jazz charts. Marilyn Scott was born and raised in Southern California. This led to Dreams of Tomorrow, her first album for Atco/Atlantic. Scott’s second album Without Warning made her the darling jazz critics. She was based in Los Angeles, where she also worked as a studio singer. Her distinctive vocals can be heard on soundtracks like Twins and Torch Song Trilogy. She recorded Sky Dancing with Bobby Caldwell. This was a huge hit in Japan, and it led to her own headlining tour. Smile was her 1992 debut for Warner Bros. It featured a duet featuring Brenda Russell on “You Don’t Know Me”, and “That Man on My Mind.” Take Me with You was her debut album for Warner Bros. in 1996. She combined her love of classic R with her own interest in it.
