Marius Neset

Marius Neset, a composer and musician who is only 25 years old has an amazing maturity. Born in Norway, he moved to Copenhagen to study at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in 2003. There he met Django Bates, a British keyboard player and composer. Bates recognized the talents of the young man and Neset has been a member since 2005 of Bates’ stoRMChaser large band. He has also joined the Human Chain small group, which was founded by his former teacher. The group performed to great acclaim at Ronnie Scotts in early 2010. Neset was influenced by Michael Brecker, but he also learned a lot of things from Jeff Harrington during his semester at Berklee College of Music 2002. Neset added Wayne Shorter and Joe Henderson to his list of early influences. Henderson is perhaps Neset’s greatest debt. Neset’s influences as a composer are similar to Henderson’s: Django Bates, Pat Metheny and Frank Zappa, along with Pat Metheny and Shostakovich. These influences have been ingrained in Neset and he has created his own musical language to express them. Marius Neset, a multi-award winning graduate of RMC, has pursued his musical dreams through various bands. JazzKamikaze has been his main project since 2005. The group’s eclectic mix of jazz and rock, electronica, and classical music has enjoyed great international success, playing concerts all over the world, including in Europe, Asia and Africa. People Are Machines is another outlet, with its emphasis on a wide range of rhythmical concepts. Marius Neset’s first solo album, Suite for the Seven Mountains was released in 2008 to rave reviews across Scandinavia. EDITION RECORDS is pleased to present his second album, Golden Xplosion. And even more things the second time around. from http://mariusneset.com
