Modern Drummer magazine says Mark Guiliana is “potentially at the forefront” of a new style of drumming. The 28-year old New Jersey native’s uncompromising approach to drumming has earned him international recognition as both a leader, and as a sideman. In 2004, Mark created HEERNT, his ‘experimental-garage-jazz’ trio based out of New York. Locked In A Basement was the band’s debut album. It was released in spring 2006 to much praise from musicians and critics alike. The record was described by Bill Bruford, Yes, King Crimson’s legendary drummer, as “the most exuberant and dramatic, beautiful, sassy genre-busting little output that I’ve ever heard since I don’t know when”. Mark has been sideman with Avishai Cohen, a world-renowned jazz bassist. From 2003 to 2008, he toured the globe with Avishai and appeared on six studio albums as well as a live DVD at the Blue Note in New York City. Mark has recorded or performed with Meshell Negeocello and Dhafer Youssef. He also performed with Wayne Krantz and Matisyahu. Mark is currently working on his solo debut record. It is being co-produced and will be out in early 2010. Mark is proficient in Gretsch drums and Sabian cymbals. He also plays Vic Firth sticks and Evans drumheads. From facebook
