Mark Turner

Mark Turner is a postbop tenor and saxophonist. He was influenced primarily by John Coltrane but also Warne Marsh. Turner was born November 10, 1965 in Ohio. He studied visual arts at Long Beach State in California, but decided to study music instead. Turner made his way to New York, where he worked with James Moody and Jimmy Smith. In 1994, Turner recorded Yam Yam as his first album. The self-titled follow-up did not come out until 1998. In This World was released later in the year. Turner returned to music with The Ballad Session in 2000. Cafe Oscurra was released a year later. Allmusic
