GRAMMY(r) Award WinningTrumpeter/Composer, Michael Rodriguez Was Born On July 14, 1979 In Queens, New York. Roberto Rodriguez, Michael’s father, inspired him to pursue music as a career. Michael studied at The New World School Of The Arts in Miami, Florida. He grew up there and continued his studies at The University Of Miami. After two years at the University of Miami, he decided to transfer to The New School University in New York where he received his B.A. He has performed and toured with Clark Terry, Bobby Watson (Quincy Jones), Joe Lovano., Toshiko Akiyoshi Orchestra, Jessica Simpson, Pop Icon, Chico O’farill Orchestra. Wynton Marsalis And the JALC, Lincoln Center Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra. And Is A member of Charlie Haden’s Liberation Music Orchestra. Michael has also performed and toured with Jon Faddis And the Carnegie Hall jazz band, Carla Bley Band And Quintet Kenny Barron, Conrad Herwig Latin side projects, Clayton Brothers Quintet Harry Conick Jr. Bob Mintzer Eddie Palmieri Septet Chick Corea And Spanish Heart Band, Smithsonian Jazz Orchestra, among others. Michael recorded on Charlie Haden’s GRAMMY(r), Award Winning Album featuring Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Joe Lovano titled “Land Of The Sun” in December 2003. Michael has also recorded on Charlie Haden’s Liberation Music Orchestra’s latest album entitled “Not in Our Name”. It is featured on “America The Beautiful” and “Going Home” by Dvojak. Michael joined The Gonzalo Rubalcaba Quartet in 2008 and recorded “Avatar” under The Blue Note Label. Michael joined Chick Corea’s Spanish Heart Band in 2019 and won a GRAMMY(r), for Best Latin Jazz Album 2020. Michael and Robert Rodriguez, his brother, have recorded four albums together, “Introducing the Rodriguez Brothers”, “Conversations”,” “Mood Swing”, and their most recent album “Impromptu”, which was nominated for a GRAMMY r” for Best Latin Jazz Album 2015. Michael is currently an adjunct professor of trumpet at NYU and SFCM. He also travels the globe as a clinician. “Reverence”, his debut solo recording, was released by Michael under the CrissCross label in March 2013.
