Born in Ithaca in 1963, Michael is now a freelance musician and composer. Michael played and/or recorded at many jazz festivals in Europe. He has also performed with Jim Hall, Tommy Campbell and Tommy Campbell. He has performed as a guest jazz soloist with several musicians from the La Scala Orchestra. This includes two highly regarded concerts in 2010, where he was one of five La Scala Soloists, as Bobby McFerrin’s band. Michael has recorded solos for over 100 albums/cds in every genre. He also recorded solos for Renato Zero, Adriano Celentano, and Mina. Bob Mintzer and Steve Ferrone are among his album credits. His saxophone solos are featured on the soundtrack of the ISO dance group’s 1991 performances at Tokyo’s Rockafeller Center in New York City. It was composed by Ludovico Einaudi, an Italian composer. National Italian Radio Rai3 has featured Michael’s compositions on 6 CD’s, where he was the leader. He has also been invited to perform with his group on numerous occasions. His music was also included on the CD’s that accompany Italy’s major jazz magazines, “Musica Jazz” and “Jazz Magazine”. Both publications have published two-page interviews featuring Michael in recent years. He has been a leader and organized numerous tours. He also played at many festivals and clubs with his own projects. This included a 2002 tour in Brazil with Duduka DaFonseca and Helio Alves. He has also performed with Nelson Veras and Brasilian jazz legends Nelson Faria, as well as with other jazz groups at festivals in Italy, Switzerland, and London, such the Villa Celimontana jazz festival in Rome, where he was joined by his brasilian band, “Tricolor”. Primetime Italian teleivision channels RAI3 u0026 RAI1 featured his 2005 performances at the “Casa Del Jazz”, Rome. He also performed at the Blue Note, Milan in 2009. Michael was in London and Rome with Sarah Jane Morris and her English group, and at several jazz festivals with Tricolor in 2010. Michael will release 3 new CD’s in 2011, which is a busy year. Tricolor invited many special guests to its first CD, including Nelson Faria and Vana Gierig. Michael’s Electric Quartet’s “Press Escape to Begin” features Randy Brecker as a trumpet player. Vana Gierig will perform on the piano for a third cd. It will be recorded live at two performances at “Casa Del Jazz” Auditorium, May.
