Mika Stoltzman (aka Mika Yoshida)

Mika Stoltzman is a “high-wire jazz marimbist… An amazing, energetic performer, ready for major exposure.” (LA Times). Mika was born on Amakusa Island in Kumamoto, Japan and currently resides in New York City. Mika studied at the University of Toronto and has devoted her life to marimba performance as well as musical studies, under the strong influence of NEXUS. Steve Gadd is her producer. She is currently studying Jazz with Mike Mainieri, a jazz vibe master in New York. “Mika Stoltzman’s marimba sounds so natural in jazz.” (JazzTimes). Mika released Mitsue in 1998. Marimba Phase was her second album. It was released under Monroe Street in 2003. Mika released Marimba Madness (2010), a live DVD that featured Peter John Stoltzman, Peter Gomez, and Gadd. Produced by Steve Gadd, Mikarimba (Video Art Music Japan 2010, Eddie Gomez) is a video music project featuring bassist. Mika has performed at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel.
