Mike Osborne

Michael Evans Osborne, born 28 September 1941, died 19 September 2007. He was an English jazz alto, saxophonist and pianist. His contributions to the Chris McGregor band Brotherhood of Breath, in the 1960s, and 1970s, are perhaps his most notable. Born in Hereford, he attended Wycliffe College in Gloucestershire as well as the Guildhall School of Music. Osborne was a member of the Mike Westbrook group from 1962-1972. Osborne also worked with other musicians during this time, including Mike Cooper, Stan Tracey and Kenny Wheeler. Osborne was a member of the saxophone trio S.O.S. from 1974 to 1975. With John Surman, Alan Skidmore. They recorded an album, plus sessions on BBC radio and television. They also toured extensively throughout Europe. He was unable to work since 1982 due to illness. On September 19, 2007, he died from lung cancer.
