Mike Reed

About me… I’m a Chicago-based drummer, composer, and presenter. I was born in Bielefeld in Germany in 1974 and lived there until the age of five. I grew up in Evanston IL, just north of Chicago. Since 1997, I have been a part of Chicago’s vibrant jazz and improvised music scene. I have had the pleasure of performing with and presenting some the best musicians in the city. I am one of those lucky people who can be as creative with my music as possible, whether it’s at intimate gigs in Chicago or large festivals around the globe. As a presenter of music, I am not a promoter. My goal is to present music in the most fan-friendly and musician friendly setting possible. This can sometimes be contrary to what regular promoters do. The Pitchfork Music Festival and Umbrella Music Festival are just a few of the many events I have worked on. Each year, I present or collaborate on approximately 150 shows. SOME of my favorite musicians: The Impressions and The Beatles, Philly Joe Jones and Elvin Jones. Also, Levon Helm / The Band / The Band, Coltrane. Charlie Parker. Nat “King” Cole. Neil Young. Ben Webster.
