Mike Scott

Mike Scott is a guitarist who plays with energy and spirit. He has lyricism and swing and creativity. His music is also infused with soul and rhythm. Since the late 1990’s, Mike has been a part of the Los Angeles Jazz scene. He started his first professional gigs. Mike is well-known for his compositions, as well as his achievements as a guitarist. His debut CD, “Good Place To Be”, featured 8 original songs. “Fallen Peach”, his 2011 album, was entirely composed of his compositions. Mike has performed in numerous venues across the U.S. as well as abroad, including intimate jazz clubs and large concert halls. Mike was born in Fukuoka (Japan) while his father was stationed abroad. After growing up in Ohio, New Jersey and Arizona, he moved to Southern California when he was 18 to pursue a career as a musician. After studying at Fullerton College, he transferred to the University of Southern California and earned a Bachelor’s degree in music performance and a Master’s degree in music composition. Mike has had a diverse career, including recording, writing, and teaching. He has recorded music for television and films, performed all over the United States, and also recorded sideman performances for several CD projects. He also recorded his own albums. One of his most memorable performances was with Stevie Wonder at Walt Disney Concert Hall Los Angeles with Monica Mancini, the New York Pops Orchestra, Carnegie Hall and Darek Oles. Other highlights included performances with many well-known jazz musicians like Seamus Blake and Matt Wilson, Vince Mendoza and Darek Olek, Larry Koonse and Josh Nelson. Mike was a founding member in 2007 of the Los Angeles Jazz Collective. The LAJC is an association of musicians who share a common interest in promoting their original music and bands through a series successful festivals and concerts. The LAJC also offers workshops and clinics that are open for the public. Mike is currently an adjunct faculty member at Fullerton College. Mike teaches private lessons as well as courses in history of jazz and rock music at Fullerton College. He also directs a jazz group. His students have been successful in transferring to The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music (NYC), Berklee College of Music and the University of Miami. from www.guitaristmikescott.com
