Mimi Fox, a San Francisco-based guitarist, was born in New York City in 1956. Fox grew up listening to a variety of music. Her father was an amateur drummer and owned a collection Dixieland records. Fox’s mother, a professional singer, was present until Fox was 12. Her older siblings, Fox and her sister, were also captivated by the pop and rock sounds of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Fox started playing drums in her school band when she was 9. Fox began playing the drums in her school band at age 9. A year later she took up guitar and started to play songs by the Monkees and Beatles. She continued to play guitar through her teens, but she remained focused on R and Funk.
