MON DAVID (vocals & guitar) is an award-winning United States-based Filipino-American jazz vocalist, composer, arranger, musician, poet & visual artist. A graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Music, he is noted for his wide and advanced vocal range, progressive singing style and techniques. He has studied the vocal art of the great jazz singers, to include but not limited to Ella Fitzgerald, Louie Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, Tony Bennett, Mark Murphy, Jon Hendricks and various vocal groups like Manhattan Transfer. He has also studied and applied to his music the jazz principles of Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Horace Silver, John Coltrane, and Antonio Carlos Jobim, to name a few. The highly-skilled singer’s tremendous knowledge of the many forms of jazz inspired music critic Roger Crane (Intl Review of Music) to write, “… David can swing you into bad health and then, turn around and break your heart with a ballad.” In 2006, David won the London International Jazz Vocal Competition, besting 106 other contestants from 27 countries. He was soon signed by the UK-based Candid label to record “My One and Only Love.” He then moved with his family to Southern California where he concentrated on playing jazz music for local clubs. He has performed at the North Sea Jazz festival, Filipino-American International Jazz Festival, Jakarta Jazz, The Jazz Bakery, LACMA, kjazz at Twists, Catalina Jazz Bar, Upstairs at Vitellos, Vibrato, Ford Amphitheater, The Blue Whale, Spazio’s, Charlie O’s, Culver Jazz Club, Yoshi’s, Savannah Jazz and many other jazz venues and festivals. He has also performed with jazz legends such as David Benoit, Eric Marienthal, Tina May, Lee Gibson, Bobby Enriquez, Boney James, Peter White, Michael Paulo, Kristin Korb, Theo Saunders, Tateng Katindig, Pasadena Jazz Big Band, Chuck Manning, Henry “the skipper” Franklin, and the Pete Churchill Trio, among others. from https://jazztimes.com
