Monik Nordine

Monik Nordine, a freelance saxophonist/composer in jazz, has been a musician for over 30 years. Monik is the director of The Victoria Jazz Orchestra. She has performed with Rob McConnell and Hugh Fraser, VEJI and Guido Basso as well as Michael Buble and the Victoria Symphony Orchestra. Monik has led many ensembles, including Departure, a jazz quartet with pianist Brent Jarvis, which performed in Victoria and Medicine Hat, Calgary, as well as other venues on Vancouver Island. She is currently busy with The Monik Nordine Trio. Monik founded and managed the Salt Spring Island Jazz Festival over three years. She also ran the Nanaimo jazz series “Jazz at the Acme”. As a leader, she has recorded three albums: Not Just to But Over theMoon (1998) and Departure (2010). Monik received a Master of Music degree in Jazz Performance and Composition from McGill University in 1997. Since 1985, she has been teaching privately and has also given clinics at many secondary schools, including the University of Victoria and the University of British Columbia. She studied privately in London, England, and New York City.
