Monika Herzig, a jazz pianist, was awarded a scholarship by the Weingarten pedagogical institution in Germany for a year. She arrived in the States in August 1988 with Peter Kienle, her guitarist, and one suitcase. She has since completed her Doctorate of Music Education and Jazz Studies at Indiana University. Her book, “David Baker – A Legacy in Music”, was published by IU Press in November 2011. She is a jazz musician who has performed at many prestigious venues and festivals such as Indy Jazz Fest and Cleveland’s Nighttown.
