Monty Waters, an alto saxophonist, hails from New York. He played with James Brown and B.B. King, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane were among his influences in the 50’s u0026 60’s. He was also one of the founding members of the independent New Yorker club Loft. He recorded with Ronnie Boykins and Billy Higgins, as well as Charlie Persip. He has spent the last few years in Europe with Mal Waldron and Sonny Murray in France, Ray Brown in France, and Chet Baker in Canada. The latter collaboration resulted in the 1993 album “Borderlines”* in Germany. One of Waters’ major projects since 1995 has been a duo with Titus Waldenfels the German guitarist. This group presents a mix of jazz and blues to audiences at renowned jazz festivals as well as in jazz clubs such the Unterfahrt in Munich. Monty’s most recent CD, “Moonlight in Slovakia”, was released on Ladybug in 1999. It features him performing with the L’ubo Samo Quintet (a Slovian group that includes pianist Peter Adamkovic and guitarist Titus Waldenfels), and also features two of Waters’ duo recordings. Allmusic
