Moppa Elliot

My parents, David and Carolyn Elliott, were the first to name me Matthew Thomas Elliott. I was born September 13, 1978. Growing up, I heard a lot of music from my parents who were both college instructors. I learned the basics of the piano and started playing the trombone in sixth grade. I then decided that I wanted to learn how to play an electric bass. I was 17 when I repaired my father’s old, acoustic basse to audition for a summer program. Tony Marino, a Pocono resident, introduced me to the bass and I began to take serious lessons. I enrolled at Oberlin College in 1997. There I recorded my first CD, Pinpoint, and gained some experience playing in Cleveland OH over the course of three years. I also had the opportunity to teach four summers at the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts. I graduated from high school in 2001 and moved to New York City in the summer of 2002. I’ve been fortunate to be able to record and play with great musicians here in New York and to continue teaching at St. Mary’s High School. from http://www.moppaelliott.com
