Morten Schantz

Morten Schantz, a pianist, singer and composer, was born in Aarhus (Denmark) in 1980. He is currently working with three different bands stretching from artpoppers GENUS, heavy-jazz-futuristic JAZZKAMIKAZE to modern trio jazz with MORTEN SCHANTZ TRIO. He released Conveyance, his first album as a trioleader in 2011. This album is a refreshing breath of fresh air on the international jazz scene. It features an ambitious and personal record that showcases Schantz’ passion for jazz and talent in blending other genres. Schantz is not a newcomer to international jazz. He has been the driving force behind JazzKamikaze’s critically acclaimed supergroup. They have toured all over the globe since 2005. He has taken jazz to a new level by leading large festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam or the Bangkok International Jazz Festival. JazzKamikaze was elected in 2007 as the leader of Danish jazz reprenting Danish music across five continents. His talent is also a major drawcard outside of jazz. Morten Schantz, despite being only thirty years old, has had numerous performances on MTV and broadcast live TV concerts to millions in Asia with JazzKamikaze. He is a pianist and singer. He released two albums between 2004 and 2006. His “Schantz Segment” funk band was heavily influenced by Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters. The Danish Jazz Grammy nominated him for the second album, “Return from Exile”. He started a new chapter in his musical career when he formed the art-pop band GENUS.
