BB DAVIS’ MYSTERIES of the Revolt was born out of the rhythmic heart of his Red Orchidstra (whose rendition of the theme from the 1971 Brit gangster movie Get Carter’ is a classic groove tune) and a collaboration between BB, long-time musical collaborator French virtuoso keyboardist DAN BIRO, and a close friend, the late and greatly missed bassist MARK Smith. BB is renowned for his unmistakable electric performances and largesse. MOTR’s eponymous record, while it evokes the spirit 70’s fusion ‘psychedelica electroa’, it also features intense, emotional and passionate playing from all three of its protagonists, who each place their own unique stamp on the music. But MOTR isn’t on any nostalgic trip. It’s far from that. While there are many influences, it is also about sound energy, strong compositions and attitude.
