Christian Meaas Svendsen, the Norwegian bass player, leads a five-piece band. Nakama, a Japanese word that means “comrade” or “community of people,” can be translated to mean “comrade”. In 2015, the group was formed as a quartet. It was expanded to a quintet in 2016. The music is influenced by European jazz, Japanese traditional music, and romantic classical harmonies. The music explores intimately the relationship between content and non-content and the possibilities for working with composed forms on a fixed material.
