The so-called “chamber music”, which may have been inspired by the Third-Stream 1960’s movement is an overlooked corner of the new music industry. Naked Dance, a new project from Michigan (USA), is based on the music of Jimmy Guiffre. The ensemble combines clarinets (soprano, bass), piano, and drums with a touch of classical jazz courtesy of Stephen Rush. Two of the group members hold doctorates in music composition from highly regarded universities. The music ranges from the very accessible (“Far Away” and It’s OK are a pure exercise in b-minor purity) to the more difficult and spiky tunes like “Trancet” or “On the Verge”, both of which were inspired by Cecil Taylor (and Ornette Coleman), with whom Rush has collaborated. Bishop studied with Guiffre, Rush and Gunther Schuller – both Third Stream pioneers and founders. from http://stephenjrushmusic.com
