Nathan Clevenger

Nathan Clevenger is an Oakland-bred and -based composer and guitarist/keyboardist, working on the margins of jazz, modern classical, and free improvisation. Nathan Clevenger Group has been Nathan’s main musical outlet since 2003. Over 150 original compositions have been performed by the group. Three albums were recorded, including Stateless, which is due to be released in 2019. Notable gigs include performances at the Switchboard Music Festival and SF Friends of Chamber Music SFMusicDay. The SF Center for New Music’s Best Coast Composer Series featured the premiere of “The Seamless Sea”, a quartet piece. The Group consists of Kasey Kudsen (alto, clarinet), Cory Wright(tenor sax, clarinet), Rachel Condry (2 clarinets), Lisa Mezzacappa (3 bass), Jon Arkin (drums), Jason Levis (1 drums/percussion) and Tim DeCillis (3 vibraphone). Clevenger also composes and records music for film with Kristina DeCillis, a violinist/composer. The Fleishhacker Foundation grant supported the creation of their multimedia evening-length work Ice Hours with visual artists Kim Miskowicz, Camille Seaman, and premiered at San Francisco’s Exploratorium in March 2019. Clevenger and Dutton have presented their work at the UC Berkeley Vision Light Symposium and the LAST Science and Art Technology Festival. The avant-chamber ensemble Ashen Cleric, which includes Cory Wright, Jordan Glenn and Tim DeCillis, the sci-fi-chamber rock band Elective Infinities (w Sarah Zaharako and Eric Perney), and the ever-evolving quartet project Book of Exits are just a few of the other active ensembles. Nathan continues to produce chamber music works, while Phillip Greenlief, Jason Levis, Jordan Glenn, and Lisa Mezzacappa have been part of Nathan’s Host Family quartet. from www.nathanclevengermusic.com
