He was awarded numerous mentions at classical music festivals and competitions for young musicians. He played in many jazz groups between 2004 and 2007, including a trio, quartet, quintet, and sextet. He performed with these groups at numerous festivals in Italy and France. He was also involved in other music projects, including classical chamber music, film scores, and big band conducting. He is currently the leader of a Paris-based trio with his own name. It includes two special guests on saxophone: Michael Rosen from New York and Javier Girotto from Argentina, as well as Melanie Badal, a cellist. He recorded the CD entitled “SYMBOLS” for Challenge Records International. His compositions have been heard on many radio stations in France and Italy. In addition, Nicola Sergio recently recorded a documentary and a CD with a quartet, as pianist/arranger/composer. This was done for the project ‘Cilea Mon Amour,’ a re-visitation of Francesco Cilea’s principal operas in jazz. This recording was released by the Nau Jazz label. The Nicola Sergio Trio’s cd Symbols’ is notable for its conceptual framework. It is a way to interpret jazz that isn’t limited to passive acceptance of any pre-designed arrangement. The project’s modus operandi is rather to explore modernism, multiculturalism. This explorative phase focuses on the exploration of harmonic progressions and non-traditional structures. Multiculturality is due to the fact that the creative influences which inspired the themes are not restricted to any particular region, culture, style, or era. Jazz is a dynamic musical genre that has no boundaries and is composed by Nicola Sergio. Nicola Sergio is a name to be remembered for his talent, deep musicality, and ‘aliveness’ in his music. Line-up of the Nicola Sergio Troo Nicola Sergio : Piano Matteo Bortone : Double Bass Guilhem Flouzat : Drums by Challenge Records “Nicola Sergio” is a melodist. There is no one who can relate to the Bel Canto’s cliches or whose melody prevails because they lack the language or knowledge. Nicola Sergio has a remarkable melodic sense. His inner chant instantly makes his music familiar. He was raised by two French musicians who are among the best in French jazz. Nicola Sergio Trio also performs Franz Schubert, Kenny Wheeler – two brilliant melody composers in each of their respective styles – “Nicola Sergio Trio is a manifested of delicacy u0026 whisper, like so many odes To Dreams and enchantment.” (From liner notes (CD illusions) – Jean Charles Richard).
