The Nikolov-Ivanovic Undectet project is one of the most ambitious in the history of jazz from this area. This project brings together the talents of Vladimir Nikolov, Srdan Ivanovic, and nine top musicians from several European nations. Artistry in Broken Rhythm, their debut album (Metropolis Jazz 2018, 2018), was inspired by Stan Kenton’s (Artistry in Rhythm, 2018) and Miles Davis’ (Birth of the Cool), and built on these impulses modern orchestrated musical music of high-intensity, deep emotions, in the rhythms and colors of different continents from New York to the Balkans. Nikolov and Ivanovic studied in the Netherlands in the 2000’s. The title track, “Artistry in Broken Rhythm”, was awarded the Silesian Jazz Festival prize in Katowice in 2016. They also won second place in the Made in New York Jazz Competition this spring – this was a jury consisting of Mike Stern, Leny White, and Randy Brecker. http://www.bjf.rs
