Nuno Campos

Nuno Campos was a Porto native in 1979. He studied classical music at the Porto Music Conservatory, and jazz at the Porto Jazz School on the double bass. He also studied drama and was a director in a variety of theatre companies, including Seiva Trupe and Arte e Imagem. In his hometown. He was also featured in Luis Miranda’s film “A Ponta da Lamina”, which was shown at Fantasporto as well as in an advertisement for Korea’s Football World Cup. He was divided between theatre and music so he decided to dedicate himself to his double-bass studies. He moved to Barcelona to continue his double bass studies at ESMUC (Catalonia Higher Institute of Music). There he studied classical and jazz under Toni Garcia Araque. Luis Vidal. Joan Monne. Joan Diaz. He participated in masterclasses with both jazz and classical musicians including Thierry Barbe and Wolfgang Gutler. He was awarded a scholarship by the Catalonian Generalitat during his third year of university studies to spend a year at The Hague’s Koninklijk Conservatorium with Knut Guettler (as well as the outstanding educators Hein van der Geyn). He returned to Barcelona and completed his university studies. In his final project, he created a thesis using a short, modern double bass technique. Then he started his own trio, the Nuno Campos trio. The Nuno Campos trio has been awarded the first prize in the Barcelona Jazz Competition. He recorded his debut record, “My Debut for the Ones Near To Me”, with his trio and original compositions. He was a Barcelona resident and played and recorded with many musicians, including: Josep Maria Farras (Silvia Perez), Jon Robles and Mathew Simon. He has performed at jazz festivals in Costa Brava (Menorca), Getxo (Belgium), Pordennone, Italy, Reus, Vila Franca and many others. He recorded Nuno Campos Trio, My Debut For the Ones Near To Me; Alex Frayle Quartet, with Jon Robles as a participant, “Days In Barcelona”, “Tribute to Nino Rota”, and Els Cremats – soundtrack to R. Alvarez’ short film “Bye, Bye Hindenburg”, “Recital”, Ricardo Barriga, “My Weird Box”, Fado, Fado, QB, Mariana Vergueiro Quintet, “Morning Rain”, Mariana Vergueiro Quintet, Mariana Vergueiro Quintet, Mariana Vergueiro Quintet, Mariana Vergueiro Quint, Mariana Vergueiro, Mariana Vergueiro, Mariana Vergueiro Quintet, Mariana Vergueiro, Mariana Vergueiro, “Morning Rain”, etc. He is still involved in many musical projects, in various musical genres. He has taught in schools that have Berklee College of Music links in Barcelona. After being selected as a double bass teacher, he also taught classical double bass at Esparreguera Municipal Conservatory. At the University of Minho, he received his Master’s degree in music teaching. He is a teacher of the classical double basses at the Vilar de Paraiso Music Academy and Silva Monteiro Music Conservatory.
