JULIO CASTRO was a conguero, flautist and singer. He also worked with Jose Mangual Jr., Jose y su Nuevo Montuno and La Unica before becoming the leader of Orquesta La Massacre. He recorded New Generation Presenta Julio Castro y Orquesta La Masacre in 1979 with Tito Nieves as lead vocals. This was on the newly formed New Generation label, Puerto Rico. Castro signed with Fania in 1980 and recorded Mamey. Fania released the iconic album Julio Castro y La Masacre, Puerto Rico in 1984 with Nestor Sanchez singing flawless lead vocals. Castro was also a percussionist with Eddie Palmieri, Hector Lavoe and Tito Puente.
