Oscar Utterstrom began playing the trombone when he was ten years old. His musical career began at Vaxjo, his hometown in Sweden. Oscar moved to Belgium with his family when he was twelve years old. He continued playing in many bands including blues bands and concert bands. Mr. Utterstrom studied trombone in Boston’s Berklee College of Music. He also majored as Music Business/Management. He was mentored at Berklee by Hal Crook and Jeff Galindo as well as Lin Biviano, Lin Biviano and Lin Biviano. Oscar graduated Summa Cum Laude at Berklee. He then moved to Nashville, where he was a production assistant at The Sessions Agency on Music Row. After that, he decided to pursue his masters degree in Jazz Studies at Middle Tennessee State University. In May 2005, he graduated Summa Cum Laude again. Oscar was able to perform with such masters as Benny Golson and Carl Allen at Middle Tennessee State University. Oscar is active in the music scene of the southeastern United States today. He has also performed internationally in Canada, China and South Korea. Oscar is a freelance trombonist and has performed with many acts, including Johnny Reid, Kelly Clarkson, Wycliffe, Wycliffe, Wycliffe, Wycliffe Gordon. He also played with Wycliffe Gordon. Oscar is the leader of his own band and has released two albums under his name. Home was released in 2008, and Departure in 2012. He was also an active arranger and has written horn arrangements for numerous artists, including My Morning Jacket (Bonnaroo, New Years Eve at Madison Square Garden), Canadian star Johnny Reid (recordings and live DVD) and the Nashville Jazz Orchestra.
