Blue Note Records founded Out of the Blue in 1980s to showcase the talents of its younger musicians. They were formed in 1984 and released four albums. Over the next five years, they toured extensively. 1986’s Live at Mt. was their most commercially successful album. Fuji reached #9 on Billboard’s Top Jazz Albums Charts. After its members left for solo careers, the lineup of the group changed a few times. In 1989, it disbanded.
