Oxyd

OXYD, a Paris-based five-member band, is located in France. The band is influenced by jazz musicians such as Jim Black and Steve Coleman, John Hollenbeck and Marc Ducret, and bands like AlasNoAxis. Kneebody. Radiohead. Sonic Youth. The band plays original compositions that are inspired by American and European jazz music. However, they also incorporate influences from rock, pop and free jazz. The band was formed in 2006 and has been working on original and personal material that is influenced by many styles, including jazz, improvised, contemporary, and rock music. The band has released three albums and played more than 150 concerts in France, Europe and the United States. OXYD is currently rewriting some of their influences, especially the grunge influence that is personified by bands like Sonic Youth, Nirvana and Soundgarden ,… This is more than a cover project. It is a true “rewriting” process. Oxyd took the structure of Nirvana’s music, sound experiments, effects, and rock energy, and combined them with their own elements to create new music. This work can be viewed as the band’s reflection on their influences and research on composition andimprovisation, and a new approach towards the audience. This project is supported in part by the French Ministry of Culture and several cultural organizations in Paris. Visit www.vortexjazz.co.uk
