Oxymore Quintet

Oene van Geel, violinist, and Mark Haanstra were both members of various bands for many years. They created chamber music that had a rhythm in Mosaic and were inspired by India in Bhedam. Then they turned their attention to alternative pop music through Voer. They created a unique sound by combining their musical ideas. It was time to start their own band where their insight would be a key part. The Oxymore Quintet was formed and the dream musicians of van Geel, Haanstra and Chander Sardjoe were the saxophonist Guillaume Orti and Harmen Fraanje, the pianist, and drummer. After a long preparatory period, the band was formed in 2006 and released their first album. The Oxymore Quintet attempts to bridge the gap between composition and improvisation in both their own compositions as well as arrangements of Radiohead’s music. The band’s common factor is the pure joy musicians feel in creating music. From www.northseajazz.com
