Paradoxical Frog

The session Kris Davis hosted was the beginning of this group. After playing for an hour, Tyshawn Sorey suggested that we make it a collaboration and each member contribute compositions. Our interaction has become almost telepathic. We can deconstruct complex compositions and then improvise. It is all possible, and we are kept on our toes. It reminds me of playing on a playground. This exciting trio sees Drummer Tyshawn Sorey, pianist Kris Davis and reedist Ingrid Laubrock, all extremely thoughtful and engaging composer-improvisers, join forces. The group’s sound is a unique blend of the three musicians. According to “AllAboutJazz”, their interplay is described as “a taut set,” as if they had decided to forgo the traditional way of making a fire and instead rub sticks telekinetically. This CD features music at a high level, with a wide variety of dynamics, density, and expression. Cleanfeed Records released the two CDs by the trio, “Paradoxical Frog” (the first) and “Union”, which were recorded in March. from http://ingridlaubrock.com
